The leveling of the floor took ages with all the lintels being put in before the new floor was laid, delayed our planned installation in June until August. What it meant though is that the chance of damaging the new floor was reduced.

Blue sand was used to blind the floor before the plastic vapor barrier was laid, this reduces the possibilities of piercing the plastic

Finally at the beginning of August the floor laying could commence, first the plastic sheet and then the insulation, as we were installing under floor heating the supplier "Real Heating" based in Riberac suggested a double layer with overlapping joints would be best.

As we laid the plastic sheet we also put on the shuttering the concrete floor would be what we were tiling onto so were keen to get it as level as possible. The insulation boards were first test laid to economies on the need for cutting.

It was so good not to see the earth floor,

Where the fire places and central supports were going were left free from insulation to give the extra strength to the concrete floor.
